Join us for a special screening of three short documentaries from the Ixil, Guatemala. Guatemalan producer Heidy Rayba, one of the founding members of Colectivo de Cine en la Calle (CCC), will join us via Zoom from her home in Guatemala to engage with the audience on the major themes of these three short films: resilience in the face of generational trauma, and the spark of hope in spite of overwhelming despair.
The CCC is dedicated to promoting film festivals held in public and open spaces such as sports fields, parks and bus terminals with the goal of strengthening dynamics of coexistence and encounter in spaces affected by violence and social exclusion through elevating Latin American cinema as a means to inspire conversations about the social and cultural contexts of local communities.
Heidy Rayba has dedicated her career in documentary and film production to telling stories of the indigenous communities of Guatemala.
She has contributed to 7 feature films and several short documentaries on human rights, historical memory and migration. Several of these documentaries have won national and international awards such as Best Documentary and have screened in some of Central and South America’s most prestigious film programs, including El Lugar que Habitamos Oaxaca and La Plazita Los Ángeles.
